He's listed third on your ballot but first for your community!
I believe in multi-modal transportation and that streets should be safe for all users
I am committed to ensure the delivery of the Taylor Street protected bike lane in 2027
I will advocate for continued traffic calming measures where necessary to improve safety
I will continue to advocate for sidewalk grinding to ensure our sidewalks are safe for all users
I will champion the implementation of a 4-way stop at 12th and Upshur Streets NE
I will work to ensure potholes are addressed in a timely manner
The recent spate of break-ins and assault in 5B05 is unacceptable
Unfortunately, issues like these can quickly fade from the attention of the city council and MPD. I will work tirelessly to keep the heat on to ensure we get the resources necessary to keep our community safe.
I have started walking on Sigsbee and 12th St NE multiple times daily to lend another set of eyes and more activity on the street in an effort to deter further property crimes
I will work with the MPD Shift Commander to coordinate on data and responses
I will work with MPD to communicate status of investigations
I am encouraging residents to keep their doors locked even when at home in order to discourage crimes of opportunity
I want to ensure that the public spaces are maintained and safe for community use
This includes repair of playground equipment at Turkey Thicket
Work with DPW on the topic of alley cleaning and rodent mitigation
I will work with the Department of Parks and Recreation to see that the track at Turkey Thicket is resurfaced
I will seek out opportunities for creation of a community dog park
I will be an active advocate for the members of 5B05, raising their concerns, helping to address their needs, and watching out for them in 5B and district-wide issues
This includes:
A voice in planning for the the Brookland Lanes Project (3726 10th Street NE) and Providence Hospital
An escalation path for residents related to their 311 requests
Context and explanation for decisions made on behalf of residents
Regular hybrid (in-person and virtual) Single Member District (SMD) meetings
Open-Door office hours for constituent concerns
Washington, DC Single Member District 5B05. This dynamic community is strong due to its mix of generational residents and new families. We are impacted by the actions of many things adjacent to our neighborhood including Providence Hospital, Catholic University, and the Michigan and Taylor St NE commuter corridors. Families travel our streets on their way to Turkey Thicket Recreation Center, Brookland Middle School, Mundo Verde PCS, Scrilli School, Petit Scholars, Washington Yu Ying, Stokes ES, Shining Stars, Bunker Hill ES, Washington Jesuit Academy, St. Anthony's School, Washington Latin, and many more! We support the commercial areas of Brookland Plaza and along 12th St NE. We are a diverse community that deserves a strong ANC representative like Michael Chaney!
Michael Chaney has called Washington, DC home for nearly 20 years, including more than a decade as a resident of this single-member district. He is a small business owner running a children's education program and actively engaged in the community. Prior to opening the small business, he worked for twenty years as a project and program manager with a Master's Degree in Business Administration and a Project Management Professional Certification. He has a wealth of experience working with a variety of stakeholders, often with competing priorities, helping to get goals aligned and projects delivered. He believes that the next ANC should be ready to work with their neighbors to improve public safety and be a conduit for the concerns of their constituency.
